The impact of globalisation and the consequent open market policy in the country has witnessed tremendous changes in industry and technology during the last few years. Kashmir Govt. Polytechnic through various innovative modes of teaching learning processes serves the State of Jammu and Kashmir in providing need based, motivated and dedicated technical manpower with latest Technical and communication skills of high Integrity. The Institute encourages the students to become successful entrepreneurs.

The institute focuses presently on development of new programmes and up gradation of existing infrastructure available for different course. All the existing laboratories and Workshops have been equipped with the “State of Art” machinery, which will help the students to acquire training needed by the industry.

Keeping in view the indigenous resources of the State in general and valley in particular, Kashmir Government polytechnic introduced two new Diploma Courses in leather and Wood Technology since 2002.

The institute produces individuals who can competently facilitate the creation of an Eco-friendly industrial base in otherwise industrially backward Valley of Kashmir.

We have been carrying out the community development programmes to bring radical change in the Techno-economic scenario in rural areas and urban Slums of Kashmir.

The institute has introduced various Continuing Education Programmes to cater to the needs of the community and industry.

We are shortly introducing degree level Programmes in Engineering and Technology for this purpose the All India Council for Technical Education has been approached for according necessary approval.
