MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and finest department of this institution. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty and staff who work with motivation and dedication. The staff is frequently updating the knowledge and skill through staff development programmes. The department keeps in mind the ever changing challenges of modem day industry and is firm in its commitment to produce knowledgeable and responsible Diploma Engineers fully aware of the tasks ahead. The Diploma Course in Mechanical Engineering aims to provide basic knowledge in Mechanical Engineering subjects such as motion machines for energy conversion, transport system. Refrigeration and air conditioning, management techniques, computer programming and numerical analysis, CAD/CAM, maintenance of machines etc. Design and fabrication of projects is also undertaken as a compulsory subject.
The course structure of the department is designed in such a way so as to nurture and to mould raw young minds into fecund brains. The students undergo industrial training to familiarize themselves with the operation problems on the job. This also helps them to translate class room knowledge to actual work situations. Industrial visits are also organized for the students to accustom them to shop floor.
To give a meaningful thrust to amalgamation of knowledge of theory classes with practical experience, the department has a multitude of excellent laboratory facilities and workshops. The various facilities available in the department are Thermal Engineering Laboratory, Strength of materials Laboratory, Hydraulics Laboratory, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab, Applied Mechanics Lab, Metrology Lab, CNC and Automation Lab, Computer Center (Mechanical). All these labs are fully equipped with latest state of art equipments
Mechanical workshops are the back bone of an engineering institution. The workshop has got all the facilities of production viz Jointing, Machining, Forming, Casting and Welding. The workshop consists of following shops. Machine Shop, Turning Shop, Painting Shop, Mouldings Shop, Advance Welding Shop, Fitting / Advance Fitting Shop, Sheet Metal Shop, Smithy Shop, Carpentry and Pattern Making Shop. Besides other machinery and equipments these shops are equipped with lathes, NC lathes, CNC lathes. Radial drilling machines. Hydraulic Bending machine. Capstan and Turret lathes, Shapers, Planers, Centreless grinders. Milling machines, TIG welding machines, MIG welding machines. Spot welding machines. Seam welding machines, Brazing equipment.
The department is having latest learning resources in the form of transparencies, video cassettes, CD's to aid the teaching learning processes. Facilities are also existing for consultancy work in the field of material testing, engine testing, metrology and jobs related to Mechanical workshops.
